Big Brother 24: Nicole Layog’s post-eviction interview (2022)

Big brotherThe house is open again! Each week, Parade.com’s Mike Bloom will bring you interviews with this season’s guests as they get kicked out of the game.

“Nicole, to quote one Big brother Superfan, Rihanna, right now, you look so stupid right now. Choosing me as your Festie Bestie, you thought, was your security blanket. And here we are, both sitting on the chopping block because of your closest ally in the house who thought you’d be safe. I never tried to cover my tracks or lie or mislead any of you. If you keep Nicole, you’ll have someone who thinks they can manipulate your game and wrap your finger around you to get what they need.”

These are some of the last words Nicole Layog heard in the Big Brother 24 house, courtesy of fellow contestant, “Festie Bestie,” and self-proclaimed enemy Taylor Hale. The speech served as the culmination of Nicole’s eventful month in the game. For the chef, the first two courses had yielded great results. She made a quick connection in the first week with Daniel Durstonand was soon invited into the “Po’s Pack” majority alliance to replace Dove Aguilar. And she used her power to take the first big step of the season, being one of the architects behind the blind side of Joe “Pooch” Pucciarelli. With all of that behind her, Nicole was ready to make a meal of the rest of the season.

Then came Week 3. A misunderstanding of Taylor’s intentions led to an intense confrontation where she and Daniel accused her of being passive-aggressive and instrumental in getting Paloma ousted. Seeing his treatment, as well as hearing about another majority alliance, the outsiders banded together to form “The Leftovers”. Their first move: Blindsiding Nicole’s future Incredible race partner Amerah Jones. When Nicole lost the next HoH by mere points, the remnants were genuinely torn between getting rid of her or Alyssa Snider. But Daniel and Nicole ended up making their decision for them. When Mount Taylor told Daniel not to use the veto, they thought the HoH realized they didn’t have the numbers to keep Taylor. And so the unthinkable happened: Daniel hijacked his closest ally. It wasn’t long before the Rogue Rats realized they or they were the ones with no numbers, and Nicole’s game was done.

Now out of the house, Nicole talks with Parade.com about the last-minute jamming she did, how she looks back on her treatment of Taylor and how she performed with “honesty and integrity.”

Let’s start with the hours before your eviction. You and Daniel put together you didn’t have the votes a short time before. And we’ve seen on live streams of you moving around the house trying to reverse votes with individuals. You told Alyssa that people calling you paranoid were “sick and childish” and told Michael that Jasmine, Taylor and Monte might have a wedding ring. Tell me about your last-minute jamming intentions.
Maybe I can work backwards. Maybe I feel like I’m giving you a better understanding of what’s in my brain. The last conversation was with Monte. I don’t know if it’s his tone of voice or what. But for the first time, I finally believed what he was telling me. And I thought, “Why didn’t I see this before?” I literally thought Monte was lying to me for the 30 days we were in the house, even though I made a covenant with him. He and I managed to clear things up about what really happened on the day of the veto meeting.

I know it’s a game. I know it’s Big brother. I know he’s not going to give me all his juice and all his information as to why or how he came after me and try to explain to me why it was important that Daniel not use his veto . But of course, if we go back to that day, Daniel and I were both like, “This guy is lying between his teeth. He thinks we’re fools!” When it came true, he was really watching over me and supporting me. (Laughs.)

And then before this conversation, I was able to talk to Michael. And I think the world of him. I want him to win this game. I think he will go very far. He is a fierce competitor. He is very intelligent. And now I found out he’s a lawyer. And I go along with the fact that he’s really good at being able to be a chameleon in this house. So I’m glad he and I were able to have a conversation. I shared with him my plot about brotherhood/sorority/brotherhood.

I learned during the show that Monte was in Alpha fraternity and Jasmine’s husband was also an Alpha fraternity. And from what I understand, Taylor’s sorority is a sister sorority to Alpha sorority. And so in my brain, talking to Terrance, I found this mystery that maybe they’re in some kind of brotherhood/sister, because it’s a very strong bond. And I think it’s possible, but I don’t really know if it’s even true.

Let’s talk about the Taylor of it all. At one point, I saw you say, “I never said anything bad about him. No negative words come out of my mouth. However, even outside of the argument you had, there were several times when you felt like you were insulting her, including threatening to go “kick her ass”, accusing her of showing off in the garden, calling her a brute and saying she wasn’t. a good person. Looking back, how do you feel about how you watched Taylor in the game?
Well, I appreciate you asking. I know a lot of things I said weren’t nice, and I can say a lot of them were strategic. It’s the Big brother lodge. This is the game. There are emotions flying around. There are opinions of other people that come to me. And I turn them into my own. And I certainly won’t deny that I didn’t say any of that.

As Taylor and I do when it comes to clearing the air, I definitely talked to him. I was very open in apologizing and trying to make sure that I walked out of that house with her knowing that I at least knew about most of the things I said. I really need to get back there, and I’d love to watch and listen and read and see all the stuff, so I can go over everything one on one with her when we have time to meet again in October.

Throughout the game, and even in your own ejection speech, you talked about playing with integrity and honesty. But we have seen you lying around the house several times to improve your strategy. How would you define how you incorporated honesty and integrity into your game?
Given the nature of the game Big brother, I was playing an honest and fair game towards my alliance member Daniel, that’s for sure. I mean, we did a Final Two together. And I certainly tried to put that forward. I wanted to make sure I could convey to other house guests that in the future I will continue to try to do so.

Speaking of Daniel, let’s talk about your relationship. You said you hated previous male guests who spoke negatively to women. And in this case, this man is one of your closest allies. How do you balance that?
I can’t speak for Daniel. I realized in this game that you can’t control someone’s actions. Period. And at the time, my intentions weren’t for him to obviously react that way. I hadn’t realized it was going to affect him the way it had when I walked out of the room. I was ventilating. I asked him not to say anything. But he did. And so here we are.

I don’t know if you still know that. But when the two of you were talking about Taylor at the time, she was asking Monte to help her pray with her for your mother’s health.
(Pause.) It breaks my heart, it breaks my heart, because… (Pause.) I feel bad and it breaks my heart. I never wanted her to feel like this. There is a lot of disappointment there. And I just have to be honest. I assume the things I said. I made the decision to use it as a shield for strategy and try to protect myself by using someone who was not liked in the house. And I take full responsibility for it.

You and Daniel constantly claimed that the other guests didn’t know what they were doing, that they were liars, clowns, etc., and that you were the only ones who played the game correctly. How do you see the state of the house now that you are out?
I think I spent too much time in the kitchen! (Laughs.) These kids are awesome. I mean, I say “children”, because they treated me like I was their mother. I’m so proud of them and what they do. The majority of this house, they have a message to send, and I’m glad it’s positive. In Big brother history there has been a lot of bullying where people make people feel isolated and unwelcome in the house. And so I give them a lot of credit. I’m just super excited to see how the rest of the season goes.

I encourage them. I encourage Taylor! In the past few days, we have shared some very beautiful moments. And it makes me feel like we have a future as friends outside of this house. I mean, we were holding hands as we sat down on those nominating chairs. I have nothing but love for her and respect for her. I was a fan of her during the first week. But I let other people’s feelings cloud my better judgment. And for this reason, I am sitting outside the house.

Lastly, let’s get your quick thoughts on the remaining guest. Watch with Alyssa.

(Laughs.) Party animal!
Brittany.
So Brittany and I didn’t really have a relationship at home. His voice though. If anyone needs a meditation… I don’t have an exact word to say because we didn’t have a relationship back home.
Daniel.
He’s a fighter.
India.
Petard.
Jasmine.
Oh, I love her and miss her so much. No BS This girl ain’t BS
Joseph.
My son! (Laughs.)
Kyle.
My little brother.
Michael.
My hero.
Mounted.
Oh, go up. He’s a horrible truth-teller. (Laughs.) For some reason, I couldn’t believe a single word that came out of his mouth.
Taylor.
Beautiful.
Terrence.
Pal.
Finally Turner.
Oh, man. He’s… I don’t even know. This one is a good one. I can’t think of anything because he’s just… Talented. Let’s say talented.
