Case No. 38: A family of 5
This family of 5 is headed by a mother who works two part time jobs. After paying her bills and household needs, she can barely support her family. Children are on the honor roll and are very active in the community. The family will especially appreciate the gifts to help out during the winter.
Critical items: Blankets (2 full, 2 queen, I am king), toiletries and cleaning supplies
Mom, 35: pots and pans, king comforter, dishes, perfume, underwear size 16/18 XL
Daughter, 11 years old: tablet, teen jewelry and accessories, T-shirts/fashion design supplies, 9/11 lingerie
Son, 13 years old: books, bluetooth speaker, gaming headphones, collectible cards, Naruto, underwear 32/34
Son, 16 years old: tablet, teenage jewelry, cartoon T-shirts, gift card, cologne, underwear 36/38
Son, 3 months: baby/toddler toys (Mickey Mouse), T-shirts, diapers (size 3), wipes, lotion, soap
Case No. 43: Two sisters and a dog
This family consists of two sisters, a caregiver and her adult sister, who has a developmental disability. In recent years, 3 members of their family died and the last one lost his home and had to move out. The caregiver is seeing an oncologist and will soon have an operation. The family has a large dog that provides security and companionship.
Critical items: Walmart gift card, blankets (1 queen, 1 twin), food, cleaning supplies, paper products, toiletries, kitchen gadgets (can opener), baking supplies, kitchen and bathroom rugs, dog food (4-dry food and healthy biscuits)
Carer’s sister, 55: duvet (queen), towels
Sister, 53 years old: quilt (twin), kitchen towels, medium sweat clothes, winter jacket, pajamas, underwear (medium), slippers and socks (size 6)
Case No. 60: An old man lives in the camper
This big guy was living on a houseboat that recently sank with all his belongings. He has found a camper to live in and only receives a small social security check that doesn’t cover his needs. He gets food from the Apalachicola food pantry several times a month. His only means of transportation is a bicycle. His health problems include diabetes, osteoporosis, and mini-strokes.
Critical items: Food, toiletries, cleaning supplies, queen’s blanket, pots and pans, glassware and cutlery
Man, 70 years old: Suggested gifts: fan, heater, queen sheets
Case No. 64: A single mother with two children
This single mother is raising two sons without the help of the father. Her income covers only basic necessities without any extras for her sons’ Christmas gifts.
Critical items: Food, toiletries, cleaning supplies, blankets (2 full),
Mom, 39: Queen’s quilts, pots, and utensils
Son, 7 years old: remote control toy, basketball / sports equipment, headphones, music, boys underwear 9.
Son, 12 years old: earphones / headphones, tech gadgets, basketball hoop, underwear for boys 14-16 years old
how can I help
Donate in person: Drop off donated items at the Christmas Connection Depot at 2990-2 Apalachee Parkway, next to the Elections Office Supervisor. The warehouse is open from 10am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, and from 1 to 5pm on Sundays. Business days are November 27 – December. 20. The deadline for donated materials is December 12th.
Wish List: Shop early and shop easy with this Christmas Connection Amazon wish list. You can view the wish list at TheChristmasConnection.org.
Empty days: Deliver new blankets and heaters from 10am-6pm on Saturday, December 3rd and Sunday, December 4th from 1-5pm at the Apalachee Parkway location. A volunteer will help you unload your car.
Donate online or by mail: Make a cash donation online at TheChristmasConnection.org or send a check to Christmas Connection, PO Box 20165, Tallahassee, FL 32316.
Adopt a family: Complete a brief application form on the website and you will be assigned a family in need by a volunteer adoption coordinator. All families are referred to us from social service organizations in the Big Bend area.
Host a Christmas data collection drive or holiday party: Gather people from your office, school, church, sports team, family, or friends and host a party or drive-through to benefit neighbors in need. You can register online on the website and then collect gift gifts, gift cards and/or monetary donations, which can be brought to the collection site during normal business hours.
