Dine with celebrity chef Curtis Stone

Celebrity chef Curtis Stone is a busy man. He took part in Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend, now streaming on Netflix, just wrapped filming the second season of FOX’s Crime Scene Kitchen, and runs LA restaurants Maude and Gwen and Georgie in Dallas. He is also the author of numerous cookbooks and has a line of cookware on HSN.

We caught up with the Australian chef to talk about his latest project, the launch of Gathar, a platform to facilitate entertainment with the ability to book amazing dining experiences, in Los Angeles.

Tell us a bit about Gathar and what makes it unique?

CS: Gathar is Australia’s leading private chef booking platform, which we have now launched in the US with LA as our first market. Gathar is unique because it takes the work out of prep, serving and more so you can get back to entertaining and hosting without all the hassle. Gathar gives people time to enjoy the good times. People can choose or create the perfect menu and their cook (chef, pasture stylist or caterer) arrives with everything they need to cook, serve and clean up!

How did you get involved with Gathar and why did you choose to launch it?

CS: As an American co-founder, I’m so excited about what Gathar brings to the United States and all the experiences we’re going to create. Having friends and family over for a meal is where some of the best memories are made, but as someone who’s usually in the kitchen, I miss a lot of those times. Gathar makes it easy for anyone to book their own private chef so they can sit down and enjoy the party. I also love that Gathar helps chefs start and grow their own private catering business – another challenge I know first hand. I can see the value Gathar can bring to our culinary partners, so chefs can focus only on what they do best.

How did it start and grow in Australia and why did you decide to bring it to California?

CS: Since its launch in 2018, Gathar now serves 30 locations in all Australian states and territories. After serving tens of thousands of 5-star dishes Down Under, we’ve brought the innovative Stateside platform.

We chose California to launch first because there is strong demand from guests who like to entertain at home and a strong supply from hospitality industry leaders.

When and where will it be launched?

CS: Gathar is now live across Los Angeles. We plan to expand across California in 2022, before launching into other key states in 2023.

How do you think this benefits chefs and diners in California?

CS: This is an amazing community of chefs and caterers that we will support, empowering them to create restaurant-quality dining experiences for people from the comfort of their homes. I think it opens the door to opportunities for chefs, cooks and caterers to share their love of food with even more people. There’s nothing like a home cooked meal, it’s so intimate. Chefs spread their arms, connect, network and do what they are most passionate about – sharing their love of food with the people around them.

How does it work and what are the costs? When will it launch and what is the website for more information?

CS: Gathar hosts choose or simply create the menu of their choice and the chef arrives with everything needed to cook, serve and clean up afterwards. A dedicated Gathar Concierge takes care of every delightful detail from start to finish. Charcuterie tables and appetizer packages start from $50 per person and sit-down menus from $160 per person.

And on a personal note:

What are some of your upcoming projects?

CS: Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend debuts on Netflix on June 15th. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a fierce competitor, so this show is perfect for me. I was a big fan of the original Iron Chef and revered Mashauru Morimoto. It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up – spending time with old friends like Dominique Crenn and Ming Tsai, while making new friends while looking over each other’s shoulders and learning from each other. . I also just finished filming the second season of Crime Scene Kitchen for FOX. I had to be very diligent to go to the gym every morning because it’s a dessert competition and I spent the day eating sweets. It’s hard work, but someone has to do it! Stay tuned for more details on this.

Gathar will officially launch in Los Angeles on June 9, 2022. For more information, visit Gathar’s website at https://www.gathar.com/.
