Elimination of Top Chef: Luke Kolpin remains positive after his release

“I don’t know if anyone is ready to leave. I’m just glad I swam in the same pool as everyone else,” said Luke Kolpin during his exit interview following his seventh-place “Top Chef” elimination. In “Freedmen’s Town”, he and his fellow chefs prepared dishes that fed their souls, but Kolpin’s meatloaf fell just short of his competition in a particularly tough challenge where no one made a bad dish. . But he nevertheless remained positive. “I fell in love with cooking because there was always an opportunity to learn, and you will never stop learning. I am delighted to continue this journey.

Kolpin was given another chance immediately afterwards in “Last Chance Kitchen” where he faced Sarah “The Buzzsaw” Welchwho was eliminated long ago in episode four, “Doppelgangers,” but has outlasted five bosses in a row to keep hope of a return to main competition alive. Tom Colicchio challenged them to do whatever they wanted, using only the seasonings they could correctly identify in a blind taste test. Unfortunately for Kolpin, who had struggled with under- or over-seasoning his dishes all season, he was once again done – this time not by the herbs and spices he won in the test of taste, but not salting his dish until too late in the cooking process.

And yet, Kolpin has always maintained his never-saying attitude. He viewed “Last Chance Kitchen” as “just another opportunity to learn. I didn’t quite make it, but hey, I had an amazing lap while I was here,” he said in his final exit interview. Seventh place isn’t bad for a chef who worked at Noma, one of the most renowned restaurants on the planet, and returned to the United States primarily to struggle amid the COVID-19 pandemic that has devastated the restaurant industry. But after “Top Chef”, it seems to be down but not released.
