Get a free ticket to California by donating food on Monday

                                        Mike: Have you been waiting to go to the state fair because of the cost?  Admission is waived if you bring a food state.  It will help families through Sacramento County.  LETICIA ORDAZ JOIN US WITH MORE DETAILS.  Leticia: It's a great idea.  All you have to do is bring some food items, three items for the family - everyone will help you.  Each person will have to bring three items.  This is the third year you are doing the event.  Helps stop results or starvation on our panel.  >> People don't think about donating to food banks in the summer.  Everything donated will go to the ELK GROVE food bank.  Children home from school.  How do I feed these bags usually found at school for lunch hour?  If you're anything like me, you can go over your food budget pretty quickly.  These are the working people who need help.  We are out of this pandemic, you can go back to something and come to the food festival.  Leticia: It's a really big turnaround.  Last week, I collected a lot of food.  >> As I noted last week, SACRAMENTO has really advanced and we have been able to amass about 9,000 pounds of non-perishable nutrients.  We hope to repeat this and do more.  Leticia: In previous years, I collected 30,000 pounds.  >> We say come and have a great time at the State Fair.  A difference should also be made in the committee.  Bring three or more non-perishable food items and you'll get a free admission ticket.  We're talking peanut butter, canned vegetables, cereal, and anything like ready-to-eat.  We know the Food Bank is very happy to receive this.  Leticia: The first 3,000 people will also get a cool bag.  You likely have some of these basic items.  It will make a difference to many families in need. It’s the third year that the state fair trades in free admission for three packaged food items per person. The last event was in 2019, before the pandemic.

In past years, the community has donated nearly 30,000 pounds of food to the Elk Grove Food Bank.

Last Monday, 9,000 pounds of food were collected at Cal Expo.

The most requested items are canned beans, pasta, cheese, cereal, and peanut butter.

The Elk Grove Food Bank said a nonperishable food need is desperate. Volunteers serve more than 10,000 families a month who are food insecure.

Half of its customers are the elderly and children.

In the summer months, many donors are on vacation, and donations are less frequent.

Cal Expo gates open at 11 am and the first 3,000 people will receive a SMUD swag.
