Houston’s culinary stars will be in the James Beard Taste America series

Some of Houston’s biggest culinary stars – including “Top Chef” and James Beard Award finalists – will take part in a showcase of American food diversity and culture next week.

DRINKER’S DIVERSION: Which Houston bar was named one of America’s Best in 2022?

Houston is one of 20 cities nationwide selected by the James Beard Foundation to host the Taste America a food series taking place at Silver Street Studios on June 29. The event will feature food stations around Michelle Wallace, Executive Chef of Gatlin’s BBQ; Dawn Burrell, last year’s Top Chef finalist representing her next restaurant in late August from Lucille’s Hospitality Group; Top Chef Houston finalist Evelyn Garcia and chef/partner Henry Lu de Kin; James Beard Best Chef Texas finalists Christine Ha and Tony Nguyen of Xin Chao; Ruben Ortega, finalist of the JBF Outstanding Pastry Chef of Xochi; chef Kaitlin Steets of Theodore Rex; and pastry chef Rebecca Masson of Fluff Bake Bar. Cassie Shortino of Phoenix, nominated for JBF Rising Star Chef, will also serve. Entertainment will be provided by Blood Bros. partner DJ Seek, also known as Robin Wong. BBQ.

General admission tickets for 7 p.m. are still available for $175 which includes access to the cocktail and tasting.
