A popular condiment brand in Canada, French’s is best known for its mustard sauce. They introduced the new ketchup popsicles on Twitter on Monday, June 20. “Hey Canadian friends, your favorite condiment just got a whole lot fresher. A refreshing and sweet ketchup popsicle made with 100% Canadian tomatoes,” the brand wrote on Twitter. They also shared a “Frenchsicle” recipe on their website, made with tomato juice, ketchup and cayenne pepper sauce.
According to their website, the popsicles are limited edition and only available across Canada for a certain period during the summer season. The brand also said the ketchup flavor was very popular across the country, according to a survey it conducted. 79% of Canadians said they like or like ketchup, according to French. The poll also found that if Canadians were to choose whether to try a ketchup-based dessert like cake, cookies or popsicles, 79% would choose none of those choices.
Twitter users reacted to the bizarre ketchup popsicles. Several wanted to know why the brand had created such a strange combination in the first place. “Amazing things are happening in Canada,” one user said while another wrote, “An offering from the ice cream truck to my personal hell.” Another user joked, “Finally I can throw tomatoes at bad performers and do some damage!”
