Ross Chapman is looking to put his injury nightmare behind him after taking his first win for 16 months over Coral Blue in the 2m5f handicap.

Chapman’s career was halted by two separate falls, but he delivered a well-timed leadoff run on a Duncan McCready 6-1 shot that knocked coach Dara Burke off the mark for the season.

“It’s been a long time,” said the knight, “I’ll tell you, but it’s over now.” “I was supposed to do it eight days before him and I went really fast, but he won really well and that’s not a bad training performance.

“It was too free and not going up the hill at Hexham and we decided to go on a flat track and try to get them ripped.”

Chapman suffered shoulder and collarbone injuries in a fall at Carlisle and then dislocated his knee in a fall at home while nearing a return.

“It was a double whammy and I was out for 11 months at the end,” he said. “It’s been a slow start since I’ve been back, but I work at Sue Smith’s twice a week and she gives me a few rides, so hopefully I can build a connection there.”

Run Rabbit

Conor Rabbit enjoyed a historic day when he scored his first double with wins over Hoganville coach George Pioli and Miss Milano boss Nicky Richards.
