Karma Summer Fundraiser, net worth over $300,000

Returning for a third year, the CARMAthon summer fundraising program has exceeded all expectations. The nonprofit organization dedicated to Thoroughbred aftercare has raised more than $300,000 to help fund its programs—more than double that of last year’s event.

With the help of TVG, the CARMAthon shared the spotlight on the day of the Del Mar Oaks and the shine on social media platforms. TVG’s live commentators promoted the event throughout the day, highlighting the importance of aftercare for the sport. The network also ran videos featuring Thoroughbreds who were retired through CARMA’s placement program for their second career as a Sporthorse.

The fundraiser was on track to meet its goal of $150,000 when a mid-afternoon phone call changed everything. An anonymous donor provided a dollar-for-dollar matching fund of up to $150,000. This was achieved by the end of the day, bringing the total amount raised to over $300,000, making this CARMA event the most successful event ever!

said Billy Koch, president of CARMA and founder and managing partner of Little Red Feather Racing. “I know I speak for the entire CARMA Board of Directors when I say we are overwhelmed with the generosity and support shown by the racing industry today. Aftercare is never an afterthought – and it is proven today.”

For the month leading up to the big day, hype dominated the CARMAthon on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Many supporters couldn’t wait to donate to CARMAthon and started making contributions before the event even started. Once the Saturday morning Karathon kicked off, donations kept arriving around the clock, even into the early morning and night hours.

“We cannot thank everyone enough for all of their support today,” said CARMA Executive Director Lucinda Lovett. CARMA only has one major fundraiser a year, so for the racing community to come together in such a big way means a lot. And of course, all of our success was compounded by the generosity of an anonymous donor who knocked this year’s goal out of the park! A similar $150,000 amount! We can’t even begin to express the huge impact this additional money will have on our programs and our charitable aftercare partners this year.”

Karamathon donors include TVG Network-Fanduel, Marsha Naify, James & Shari Ough, Samantha Siegel, Oak Tree Racing Foundation, Santa Anita ParkDel Mar Thoroughbred Club, Bob & Jill Baffert, Rick Gold, Tom & Nicole Bachman, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Jeffery Ward, Carol Fernandez, Madeline Auerbach, Mike Birkland, John Sondereker, Roger Straus, Lisa Beattie, Jeff Blea, Joel & Cathy Eichenberger, Mark Feld, Katie Fisher, Flavien & Manon Prat, Thorbred Stables, and many more.
