Pet of the month: Bucky

Hello Woodlands in partnership with Operation Pet Alive Highlights “Pet of the Month” featuring a domestic dog or cat available for adoption and/or adoption in Montgomery County, Texas. Operation Pets Alive is a not-for-profit, all-volunteer organization that strives to elevate Montgomery County into a no-kill society through innovative programs that raise community awareness, reduce the number of dogs and cats entering our shelters, and increase the number of dogs and cats that leave our shelters alive.

For our pet of the month, we’re excited to introduce you to Pookie!

Bucky’s story

Buck (aka Bucky) is a happy little boy who is looking for an active family to adopt him! Bucky’s favorite things are head pats, tummy rubs, playing fetch and eating peanut butter. He will love being your running buddy and will quickly bond with the people around him.

Bucky found himself at the Conroe Animal Shelter as a stray in December 2021. He is estimated to be just over 2 years old, a cattle dog mix and weighs less than 50 pounds. Bucky was chosen to be a foster for one week in February, and it was clear to his sitter and the OPA team that he didn’t belong at the shelter and needed OPA’s help to find a family.

It was obvious to Bucky’s temporary care that he had some early training because he is house trained and knows how to sit and stay! He is friendly with almost everyone but may need time to warm up to strangers in the house. He also needs a little peanut butter stimulus to enter his crate, but he responds quickly to training. Foster Bucky has only been able to keep him for 2 weeks, so he is currently boarding and while he is looking for his forever home, he will also love a new sitter!
