It’s officially summer! But if you believe the weather we’ve had lately, it’s been summer since last month! On the first day of summer yesterday (June 21), I learned something about the great state of Texas, something that just might make me leave the state I’ve called home most of my life.
Ice cream. Ice cream could get me out of Texas!
When the temperatures here start to heat up the asphalt to the point that it wants to melt, we often turn to ice cream for relief and to cool our throats a bit. Everyone has a favorite flavor of ice cream. My favorite is the Blue Bell Vanilla Bean, but there are others that are on par with the Vanilla Bean. Rocky Road, Cookies And Cream, Peppermint, Birthday Cake or Wedding Cake (thanks Blue Bell)!
Well, here’s what Instacart did. Since vanilla is the most purchased ice cream across the country, they dug a little deeper and compared the flavor of ice cream each state buys the most against the national average and they found that Rainbow Sherbet was the most popular ice cream flavor in the state. from Texas. Rainbow sherbet? Oh good? Come on, who’s eating this stuff? !
Is sorbet really ice cream?
I have to question the results of this survey because, technically, sorbet is not ice cream. When I googled “Is it sorbet ice cream” I got the following result:
Sorbet (pronounced SHER-bet) falls somewhere between sherbet and ice cream and includes dairy ingredients (in small amounts, around 1-2%), but is markedly different from ice cream in flavor and texture.
So I have to cry foul because sorbet is markedly different and yes, it has a different texture and taste to regular ice cream. Apparently, although Instacart discovered that rainbow sherbet is also popular in Arkansas, Montana, and Kansas.
Here are the states I’m willing to move to, simply based on their favorite flavors:
- Louisiana because of birthday cake ice cream
- Arizona because of Rocky Road
While I can’t go out and rent a moving truck for this, I will go ahead and stock up on my favorite ice cream flavors now! Get ready for National Ice Cream Day on July 18. On July 18, I’ll have a triple sugar cone filled with Vanilla Bean, Rocky Road, and Birthday Cake ice cream!
