ALDI customers are going wild over a one-pot, three-ingredient dinner recipe that is taking Australia by storm.
Dozens of ALDI shoppers revealed on a popular Facebook group how they whipped up the “cheap, tasty and easy” meal using three supermarket ingredients.
Fans say they used ALDI’s Boneless Butterfly Chicken – which comes in a variety of marinade flavors including Spicy Mango, Greek Style and Spicy BBQ – a packet of rice and chicken broth to create the dish.

To cook, they simply placed a cup of rice in the bottom of a baking dish and placed the uncooked chicken on top.
Then they poured two cups of chicken broth over the ingredients before placing the dish in an oven or deep fryer until cooked – usually about 45 minutes to an hour (full recipe listed below) .
ALDI fans took to social media to rave about the easy recipe.
“I jumped on the chicken and rice bandwagon…this is perfect,” one wrote on the Aldi Mums Facebook group.
“One cup basmati rice, two cups chicken broth, chicken on top – 40 minutes in an air fryer oven.”
Another wrote: “I doubled it – a family of six here. So two cups of rice and a liter of broth with jasmine rice – it was really delicious.
A third added: ‘I made it with the Spicy BBQ Chicken and it was amazing!
Another said: “Did it for the first time last night and it was amazing. So glad whoever shared it did.
Another wrote: “One of the most delicious – and easiest – meals I’ve ever made. Family loved it.
Most agreed that they preferred using broth over water in the recipe.
Other ALDI fans said they wanted to try “cracking dinner”.
“I’m trying this tonight. In the oven as I write this!” wrote one.
Added another: “Wow, must try.”
Some have suggested adding different ingredients to the mix, such as bacon, cherry tomatoes, peas, and zucchini slices.
How to make ALDI’s Viral Chicken and Rice
For 4 people
- 1 package ALDI Boneless Butterfly Chicken – any flavor you like
- 1 cup rice (basmati, jasmine, arborio and long grain all work)
- 2 cups water or broth
- Pour the rice into the bottom of a baking dish
- Place the chicken on the rice
- Pour water or broth over rice and chicken
- Bake at 200°C for 45-60 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through and rice is cooked
- The edges and top of the rice should be a little crispy.
