Ice cream is one of my favorite treats. The cold treat is refreshing on a hot day and always up to the task after a long day at work. In fact, a survey by Cumberland Farms, a top dairy company, found that 95% of respondents ate ice cream all year round. When it comes to flavors, I like everything from vanilla and chocolate to more elaborate concoctions like those from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams or Ben and Jerry’s.
One type of ice cream that is always in my freezer is strawberry. The humble but delicious strawberry ice cream is often overlooked when people browse the ice cream section of the grocery store, but I’m here to say it should be a staple in your home as well as mine. In fact, I’m willing to bet you haven’t had strawberry ice cream in a while and forgot how much you love it.
To find out which strawberry ice cream is the best, I visited a few grocery stores in my town to gather all the brands I could. Then I gathered a few tasters and we ranked them from worst to best. Read on to find out about the shocking brand we considered the tastiest strawberry ice cream on grocery store shelves. Also check out: We’ve tasted 10 vanilla ice creams and this is the best!)
Rebel Ice Cream is known as a keto-friendly ice cream brand with its high fat, low carb, and no added sugar flavors. It’s a great alternative for those looking for an ice cream suitable for a specific diet, but if you’re just looking for standard strawberry ice cream, I’d pass it by. The ice cream tasted faintly strawberry and had kind of a bitter, artificial strawberry flavor compared to other brands I’ve tried.
Typically, store brands like Walmart’s Great Value taste similar to brand name products, but not quite as good. This is the case here with the Great Value Strawberry Ice Cream, which had a grainy texture that all other ice creams lacked. There were no distinct strawberry pieces in the ice cream, but it had a sweet strawberry flavor. If you’re an avid Walmart shopper on a budget, that’s okay, but there are better brands available in the following case.
Natural strawberry is a great way to describe the taste of Breyers ice cream. Typically, strawberries don’t have a super concentrated flavor, but a lighter, fruitier flavor and that’s exactly what this ice cream was. There were small bits of fruit in the tub of ice cream, but we wished they were slightly larger to have a stronger flavor impact. All in all, I would buy it again, especially when Breyers Ice Cream is on sale.
This was the ice cream I was most looking forward to after trying another flavor from Tillamook a while ago. Although we weren’t disappointed with the ice cream, I think there are better options. When I opened the container, the color was very pale pink, almost like a baby pink. The consistency of the ice cream was incredibly smooth and creamy which was nice. There were also big chunks of diced strawberries in each bite which was also nice. I wanted a stronger strawberry flavor from this ice cream. In the end, I thought it was more like a strawberry and cream flavor than just strawberry.
The bright color on the outside of the container was a major indicator of what was to come when we opened the lid on the Blue Bell Strawberry Ice Cream. The bright pink ice cream was very creamy and had chunks of strawberries in every bite. One thing that knocked this ice cream down a bit was that it melted a little faster than the top two brands. On a hot summer day, the last thing you want to eat is half-melted ice cream.
Häagen-Dazs is an iconic ice cream brand that crafts classic and creative flavors loved by many. The brand’s strawberry flavor is about as authentic as it gets. The ice cream base was creamy and pale pink. Throughout the pint there were large and small pieces of real strawberries. When I first tasted this, I felt like I had just bitten into a fresh Florida strawberry.
Those who live in the South know how good most Publix grocery brand foods are, including the delicious strawberry ice cream. The pink ice cream is filled with pieces of real strawberries, which gives a more intense flavor. The texture is fantastic without a hint of graininess. The only downside to this ice cream is that it is not available nationwide for everyone to try.
