Whiskey List adds whiskeys from the wilder side

The Whiskey List has added renegade independent bottler Whiskey Sponge to its lineup.

The move is part of The Whiskey List’s game plan to expand the availability of exciting new whiskeys to the Australian market.

Created by Scotsmen Angus MacRaild and Iain McClune, Whiskey Sponge bottlings are exceptional and delicious quality whiskeys, but fun, cheerful and a little less laid back than some of their peers. The Whiskey List (TWL) will distribute its premium whiskeys in Australia.

“On the world whiskey scene, Angus and the team at Whiskey Sponge have amassed a huge following. In the space of a few years, they have established a reputation for bottling some of the most innovative and sought after whiskies. It’s great that TWL can offer local distribution to Australian Whiskey Sponge fans, especially when so many of their bottles sell out online within minutes,” said Oliver Maruda, co-founder of The Whiskey list.

“We love Whiskey Sponge. Angus, who is responsible for product selection and label design, pulls out all the stops with some of the most ridiculous, hilarious, and fun tasting notes and descriptions to match. Some of them worth picking up just for the literary comedy on the labels, made even better by the ever-exceptional liquid inside. They’re a must-have on any whiskey lover’s bucket list.

This partnership also integrates the Decadent Drinks portfolio. Decadent Drinks is the parent company of Whiskey Sponge, which offers rare bottles under the Whiskey Sponge, Rum Sponge, Cognac Sponge and Equinox and Solstice labels.

In addition to offering these bottles through the TWL platform, Whiskey Sponge and other Decadent Drinks spirits will be available at whiskey bars and specialty retailers as part of the distribution launch campaign.

Maruda says: “Our aim is to introduce Whiskey Sponge to as many whiskey lovers in Australia as possible. We continue to work closely with renowned Australian whiskey bars including Whiskey & Alement, The Elysian Whiskey Bar, The Baxter Inn, Burrow Bar and The Gresham, all of which will have bottles to sample at the dram. Full cylinders will be available for purchase from our partner independent resellers. Retailers and on-site are the coal face of the whiskey industry when it comes to consumer interaction and education”.

Angus MacRaild of Whiskey Sponge (picture on the right) are equally excited to partner with The Whiskey List to manage their Australian distribution.

“It’s kind of moving to me, but also very heartening, that the whiskeys we’ve selected for bottling and their respective very silly and surreal labels are being enjoyed on the upside down part of the planet. It’s always a pleasure to participate in the virtual tastings of our whiskeys from the Whiskey List and to chat with whiskey lovers on the other side of the world. I hope that I too will make it all the way there one day for jokes of whiskey and fun in real life.
